River Murray

Murray Darling Association Logo

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is a member of the Murray Darling Association which seeks to ensure that the environmental integrity of the Murray-Darling Basin is conserved and protected.

The River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari is an important natural resource for South Australia. The river supplies up to 45 per cent of Adelaide's water supply in an average year and up to 90 per cent in a dry year. With increasing threats to the supply and quality of water from the River Murray, it is vital that we all are 'waterwise' and use water efficiently and effectively.

With increased demands on River Murray water, there is a decrease in the health of wetlands, water quality and native fish numbers, as well as an increase in salinity levels and frequencies of algal blooms and pollution in the River Murray.
