Water Management

We can all take steps to reduce the amount of mains water we consume within our houses and gardens.

Water in handsReducing your water consumption not only helps save our precious water resources but will save you money too.

According to SA Water consumption data for the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, each of our households use around 230,000 litres of mains water per year.

For most households, garden and outdoor usage, can account for around 40 per cent of household water consumption, which means that every year an average of over 90,000 litres of water is used just on outdoor/ garden water use per household within the City.

It is important to ensure that the quality of water that runs off our roofs, driveways, roads and other sealed surfaces does not pollute our creeks, waterways and oceans.

SA Water - Water Saving Tips

Smart water solutions for our City

The Council is installing smart solutions which will save water and help the effects of climate change.

These systems work to:

  • slow and store water to prevent flooding
  • direct water to plants and trees
  • remove pollutants for cleaner water
  • enhance habitat for wildlife
  • cool our neighbourhoods during hot temperatures
  • reduce the impacts of climate change.
