Hope Cafe volunteer

The Council is looking for Volunteers to assist a group of older residents who may otherwise experience social isolation to get together at the local Hope Café on a weekly basis.

As a volunteer, you’ll be working as part of a small team of Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) volunteers, and will be encouraged to join the group for a cuppa and chat. There may also be a requirement to assist with pushing a wheelchair or aiding citizens with mobility impairment. 

The group meets on Tuesdays from 11am - 1pm. OHS wheelchair training will be provided for the role where required.

The Council’s CVS supports older people living in aged care facilities through providing Volunteers to provide companionship to socially isolated residents.

Pet Care Program

The Pet Care Program is designed to provide a free service to pet owners in our community who may be unable to regularly walk or groom their pet due to immobility, ill health, aged or other determining factors.

Knit & Stitch Mentor

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is looking for a Knit & Stitch Mentor Volunteer to assist members of the community who have an interest in knitting, crocheting and hand stitching by sharing their knowledge and skills in handicraft.

The Knit and Stitch Program provides an opportunity for beginners who have an interest in learning to knit, crochet and hand stitch tapestry, long stitch, embroidery and hand quilting. The Knit and Stitch Volunteer Mentor provides support, advice and guidance to group members.

This Program runs weekly on a Saturday afternoon from 1.30 – 3.30pm at the St Peters Library Complex.

Stepping Out

RE seniors thumbDo you have an interest or hobby that you would like to pursue? Then Stepping Out might be the activity for you.

Stepping Out matches up volunteers, dedicated to sharing their own skills and interests, with frail aged or younger disabled members of our community living in their own home.

The benefits of Stepping Out include:

  • companionship and friendship
  • increasing an individual's involvement in social activities and the community
  • sharing a hobby or activity that is of mutual interest.

Community Visitors Scheme (CVS)


CVS volunteerCreate a new friendship with someone who needs it most by visiting a socially or culturally isolated resident in an aged care home. Volunteer in a one-on-one capacity or as a small group.

The Community Visitors Scheme is an Australian Federal Government initiative which aims to help establish and strengthen links between people living in aged care homes.

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters administers the scheme, which operates in Aged Care facilities within the Cities of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, Burnside and Campbelltown.

By befriending a person living in an aged care home, you have a chance to make a difference to their life, and potentially your own.
