Little Bang Discovery Club is back!

Conduct experiments at home with your young scientist through Little Bang Discovery On Demand.

Over four fun-filled sessions, this hands-on program will allow children aged 3-6, and their accompanying adult lab partner to combine everyday objects and experiences with genuine scientific enquiry methods.

Before starting, you can either collect a Discovery Box from Payneham Library (subject to availability) or go on a treasure hunt at home and put together your own Discovery Box, containing the listed or similar items, which you will use during each session to maximise enjoyment. There will also be a list of additional items specific to each session. Equipment lists and instructional videos are available below.

Watch videos

Session One - Collecting and Classifying

In this first session we introduce what it takes to be a good 'discoverer' or scientist. We start by being observant and asking lots of questions. We learn how to collect items and record what we observe about us.

To watch all four sessions, click on a link below or visit the Little Bang Discovery Club playlist on YouTube.

Session Two - Measuring and Recording

In this second session we learn how to use measurement as a way of accurately classifying (sorting and matching) our objects. We
explore a variety of technology that can be used to weigh and measure objects, sometimes accurately! We start to record our
observations – sometimes it can be hard to remember what just happened.

Session Three - Experimenting

In this third session we learn about observing and measuring change. We learn that experiments involve a simple and fair test. We put
our measuring, observation and recording skills to good use.

Session Four - Science Fair

In this final session we hear from everyone who did an experiment during the week. What question did they set out to answer, what
equipment and materials they used, what was the experiment they did and what did they learn? Then some more experiments to try.
