Guide to Cyber Safety

Our library staff can provide support and access to resources and education to assist the community to participate safely online. 

Stay safe online by following these cyber safety steps.

Secure your accounts with strong passwords containing letters, numbers and symbols and keep your privacy settings, software and apps updated.

Personal information

Do not share important personal information online, such as date of birth, address, contact details or bank details.

Think before you click

Never click on links in messages from people you don’t know or links that seem suspicious. Be wary of website pop-ups and ads.

Surf safely

Secure sites can be identified by "https" and a padlock icon to the left or right of the address. Manually type in the website’s address into your browser’s address bar to minimise risk.

Report it

If you encounter cyber-bullying or online scams, then record as much information as you can, including images, and report it straight away.

eSafety Commissioner The Office of the eSafety Commissioner provides a range of online safety resources and programs to help all Australians have safe and positive online experiences.
SA Department for Education Website includes topics on cyber-safety, bullying and harassment.
Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN) The ACORN provides information on how to recognise and avoid common forms of cybercrime as well as advice for those who have fallen victim. It also makes reporting cybercrime easier and more convenient for all Australians.
Scamwatch - Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Scamwatch is run by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). It provides information to consumers and small businesses about how to recognise, avoid and report scams.
Bullying. No Way! Website for Australian schools is managed by the Safe and Supportive School Communities Working Group which has representatives from all states and territories, including the Catholic and independent schooling sectors.
